Deputy Wheeler began work at the Lee County Sheriff's Office on October 13, 2008 as a member of the Corrections Division.

In a statement, Deputy Wheeler's fiancée, Sarah Claus said: "Scott was the most amazing spouse, father, son, brother, uncle, best friend and sheriff's deputy.  He is survived by his fiancée Sarah, his two children and a baby on the way. Also surviving are Scott's mother and father, step-father, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.  Scott will be remembered as the strongest, funniest and biggest-hearted person we all know.  He will be so incredibly missed and never forgotten."

The family has opened a memorial account at Fifth-Third Bank under "Sheriff's Deputy Wheeler Memorial Fund."
