MIAMI (AP) - A man who appeared in an MTV reality show that sought to transform thugs into gentleman has been charged with murder in Miami.

Twenty-four-year-old Baron Colon of Miami Gardens is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and armed burglary. Those stem from the 2006 killing of artist Marcelo Vera during what police say was a botched heist.

Colon was a contestant in 2009 on "From G's to Gents," an MTV show that offered a chance at winning $100,000 for learning grace, chivalry and etiquette. He was arrested Jan. 7.

A message left for his public defender Friday was not immediately returned.
