CAPE CORAL- On December 14th 2007 the Cape Coral Police Department’s Narcotics Unit along with the SWAT Team was serving a narcotics search warrant at 2206 NE 15th Terrace Cape Coral, FL.

As the warrant was being served, SWAT team members entered the house while clearly and loudly announcing their presence and identifying themselves as “Police”. All officers were wearing SWAT uniforms and holding shields that said “Police” across the front.

As officers entered the residence, a male (later identified as Javario Barron 24yoa of 2206 NE 15th Terrace) ran into a bedroom and began shooting at officers from inside of the bedroom. Three of the SWAT team members returned fire into the bedroom (which was completely dark).

A distraction device (flash-bang grenade) was thrown into the dark room occupied by Barron at that time.

Barron then surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Neither Barron nor the officers were injured during the shootout.

Barron was charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer (3 counts); Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (prior charges) and Trafficking in Cocaine (over 28grams of crack cocaine was discovered as a result of the search warrant). A .40 caliber Taurus handgun was recovered from the bedroom that Barron was in.

Barron was held in the Lee County Jail in the interim.

Today at 1:30pm, Barron pled guilty to:
Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
Resisting an Officer with Violence
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
He will begin serving an 11 year prison sentence (10 years are minimum mandatory) and he will be on 4 years of probation upon his release.
