Lee commissioners voted unanimously to support the effort to get a new postmark for people in 4, gated communities.  They want to scrap the Fort Myers mark, in favor of Estero Bay.

"It is very annoying and bothersome to be associated with Fort Myers as our hometown, when it really is Estero,"  said one homeowner in comments to commissioners.

"We are tired to being called San Carlos or Ft. Myers.   We are Estero, and want to be postmarked, Estero Bay," said another person.  "I believe this is hurting our proprty values and confusing a lot of people."

Commissioners agreed, voting to back the move to Estero Bay.

But the postal service says:   not so fast.   Gary Sawtelle of the service in Tampa warns:  "We do not change them (postmarks) just to create community identity.    IN fact, we rarely change them."

Still, residents vow to press ahead, and petition the service for the postmark change.
