ENGLEWOOD-- Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives arrested an Englewood man for stealing five red dumpster lids Sunday and selling to a recycling firm in the Whidden Industrial Park in Charlotte Harbor. Charged with Dealing in Stolen Property, and False Verification of Ownership to a Recycler was Nathan Benjamin Spargur, 20, 1830 Newpoint Comfort Rd.

The owner of U-Dump Trailers reported the dumpster lids missing; they were valued at $1,000 each for a total of $5,000. An employee working on a construction site at Marathon Blvd. coincidently saw several red dumpster lids in the back of a pickup truck that passed by. The employee called Allied recycling, 4137 James St., and learned that the dumpster lids had been scrapped there.

Deputies went to the recycler and immediately saw the five red dumpster lids in a scrap pile. The company provided the transaction sheet for Jan. 5 at 12:07 p.m., and also had video and a fingerprint of Spargur. The recycler paid Spargur $71.74 for the lids. Detectives Thursday located Spargur at Virginia Ave. and Parker Dr. near his home and made a traffic stop. He was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on $27,500 bond.
