TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Parole Commission has ordered the release from custody of a 27-year-old woman who was born with AIDS and now is dying of cancer.

The panel voted 2-1 Wednesday in Tallahassee to release Betsie Gallardo to a Miami hospice. Last week she was moved from prison to a secure area of the Kendall Regional Medical Center.

Gallardo has served slightly more than a year of a five-year sentence for biting one Collier County sheriff's deputy and kicking another after her 2008 arrest in Naples on a child neglect charge that later was dropped.

Four months into her sentence she was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer. It has since spread to her liver, lungs and ovaries.

Born in Haiti, she was adopted by a couple in Lafayette, Ind.
