INDIAN SHORES, Fla. (AP) - A Florida woman was seriously injured by a boat propeller after she jumped overboard to retrieve her hat.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Molly Rienerth of St. Petersburg was a passenger on the boat Saturday afternoon.
While the boat was idling in the intercoastal waterway off Indian Shores, Rienerth's hat blew off. Deputies say she immediately jumped into the water after it.
According to the sheriff's office, the boat's driver was unaware Rienerth had jumped overboard. Deputies say that at some point, Rienerth was hit by the boat, pulled under it and then back to the surface.
Authorities say Rienerth suffered deep cuts to her left leg from the boat's propeller. Another passenger pulled her back onto the boat.
