FORT MYERS, Fla -  People in Southwest Florida are getting ready to ring in the new year!

Lots of places are getting ready to host big bashes and are busy with last minute preparations.

A new ball will make it's debut tonight.

The ball consisting of 2,000 lights will drop above First street at midnight.

But the big ball drop isn't the only attraction planned for the evening.

You can enjoy six stages of live music, multiple DJ's and several street vendors.

It's free for you, but not free for the organizers.

The non-profit River District Alliance is organizing this year's Downtown Fort Myers bash and they're working with just $20,000 dollars due to harsh budget cuts.

The city contributed $10,000 dollars while the rest was raised by downtown businesses.

Businesses hope tonight will bring in a lot of money.

All day they were prepping for the more than 20,000 people expected to attend.

Streets in the heart of downtown closed at 3pm so workers could start setting up.

If you go to downtown early, you may be able to find a free spot.

Otherwise there will be parking in the garages downtown.
