OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (AP) - State officials say human carelessness is to blame for four separate wildfires that burned hundreds of acres and destroyed several vehicles and boats in Okeechobee County.
Florida Division of Forestry spokeswoman Melissa Yunas says three people received notices of violation after the weekend's fires. All may have to pay the costs of controlling the fires.
Yunas says a 305-acre fire was sparked by a lawn mower.
Two smaller fires did more damage. A camper, a tractor and a truck were consumed by a 20-acre fire. Meanwhile, a 10-acre fire destroyed five cars, a camper, four lawn mowers, three sheds, a van, a sailboat and some canoes.
A campfire ignited a blaze that charred 100 acres Saturday and 200 more acres plus two vehicles on Sunday.
