CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A real-life grinch strikes a home before Christmas.  Police say the burglary happened off SE 39th Street, near Savona Pkwy in Cape Coral.

Police say it appears someone likely broke-in sometime during day, stealing valuables including Christmas presents.

"The first time I heard anything was seeing the crime scene police car," said neighbor Ralph Brooks, who like most neighbors we spoke with, didn't see the break-in happen...

Officers tell WINK News it appears the burglar or burglars got through a locked door into the home...

The homeowner discovered something was wrong after coming home Wednesday night.

"Very low crime here, the neighbors really do watch out for the houses, we're really vigilant... Surprised this happened, surprised they got through to this area," Brooks said.

Neighbors say its a family-friendly neighborhood... But the crime down the block may have them thinking twice about their own safety.

"This is like the scrooge coming and stealing presents under the Christmas tree. People should be ashamed of themselves for stealing from people during bad times like this, especially things like Christmas presents," Brooks said.
