FORT MYERS, Fla.-- FedEx expects to move nearly 16 million packages on its busiest day this year, Dec. 13th.
The prediction is FedEx's highest ever for a single day and 11 percent higher than last year.
Before noon Monday t the FedEx Office location on U.S. 41 in Fort Myers, several customers had already dropped off their parcels for shipment.
Last year, the company shipped 14.2 million packages on its busiest day. On an average day, the shipping giant ships about 7.5 million packages.
During the week of December 13, the company expects to move more than 63.1 million packages, compared to last year's busiest week of 57.5 million.
From Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve, the company says it delivers more than 86 packages per second.
FedEx says the holiday spike is "largely driven by online retailers... who ship high volumes of lighter shipments to residential customers."
