CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) - A Southwest Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading no contest to strangling and sexually assaulting a woman.
Cape Coral Police said Baron Young killed Tamara Jo Hyatt in 2008 because he was angry over an unpaid car repair bill. Police said Young went to Hyatt's house a week before the murder demanding she pay the $175 debt for work he had done on her truck. The two planned to steal the money to settle the debt.
But police said an argument erupted and Young said he cut Hyatt's throat and sexually assaulted her.
Young pleaded no contest Tuesday to first-degree murder, sexual battery, armed robbery and theft.
Assistant Public Defender Ken Garber said the killing wasn't planned and that Young is sorry.
