FORT MYERS, Fla.-It's time to forget about Black Friday's door busters because now it's time for Cyber Monday. Get off your feet and onto your computers. These blowouts start Monday, November 29th and some deals last all week. A new survey shows holiday sales totalled 45 billion dollars for the weekend.
The number of shoppers rose to 212 million, up nearly 9-percent compared to last year.cyber monday is the day online retailers traditionally mark as the start of the holiday shopping season. A record 107 million people are expected to hit the web today for bargains according to a shop.org survey.
This year, almost 9 in 10 on-line retailers are offering special deals. Those deals can include anything from 10 to 50-percent off. And most will also include free shipping on your order -- over a certain dollar amount.
Electronics are expected to be the top seller. The survey also showed the number of shoppers who will use smart phones for Cyber Monday doubled to an estimated 4 million. 44.2 percent plan to hit the web early in the morning. 37.5 percent in the late morning. Over one-fourth of Cyber Monday shoppers will shop in the early evening. Add those up -- that's more than 100-percent. So some of you will shop throughout the day.
Around 12 percent will shop on Cyber Monday from work this year.
That's slightly fewer than 13.5 percent last year.
