BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a police car struck a southwest Florida woman who ran into the road after her dog.
Brooksville Police Chief George Turner said 36-year-old Deborah Taylor was walking with two men Friday night when the dog slipped out of its collar and ran across the highway. A patrol car hit her and she was airlifted to the hospital with head injuries. Her injuries are not life threatening. The officer was not injured.
Authorities say there were no skid marks from the accident, which happened along a stretch of road with poor lighting.
Taylor was wearing dark clothing.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
