MIAMI (AP) - An American Airlines passenger on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Miami was hospitalized upon arrival after experiencing possible symptoms of cholera.
Airline spokesman Tim Smith says the adult male became ill during the flight Thursday evening.
Emergency medical services met the flight on arrival and transported the patient to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund says the man is a doctor who had been treating cholera patients. It was unclear where he had been working.
A cholera epidemic in Haiti is expected to sicken 400,000 people.
Nordlund says the case has not been confirmed as cholera.
Smith says the plane was given a routine, thorough cleaning and that there was no risk to passengers.
