BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - It's an exercise raising some eyebrows, yet many women are turning to it to get in shape...pole dancing. Ladies even say they'e leaving class with more than just a toned body.
"Everybody's a little stiff at first. People are always nervous for their first class because they don't know what to expect, but once things get going and the music's on they start to relax a little bit more," Mikal Mount, owner of Pole Dance Fitness of Southwest Florida in Bonita Springs explains.
Before you know it, you're gliding and swinging around the pole, breaking a sweat and trying to catch your breath; truly getting a workout. Women of all ages, shapes and sizes are flocking to pole dance fitness. In fact, Mount can barely keep up.
"The response has been overwhelming. I have from early 20s to into their 60s as clients and they all love it," she gushes.
For many, they love what the class does for their body. If you don't think dancing around a pole is tough work, ask the ladies in Mount's class.
"For me it was the front of my legs. Oh my gosh, I couldn't move for two days," 47-year-old Shannon Park-Denton tell us.
"Oh my arms, my arms were on fire," another student proclaims.
Maria Hernandez says moves she learned on the pole helped her loose over 50 pounds in the last year. "Looking at the changes in my body so quickly, that's the best part."
But, it's not just about a physical transformation. Many of Mount's clients come strictly to feel sexier, as Parks-Denton did, "Your sexiness comes out, not just because of the shoes or the lack of clothes, but because you see yourself as a woman."
It's been reported that pole dancing can burn up to 800 calories an hour. If you want more information visit Mount's website.
