LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Lee County deputies collected more than 57,000 pills during a special drug collection effort Saturday.
"Operation Medicine Cabinet" gave the public a chance to turn in unused prescription drugs at three locations in the county. Deputies say the program is part of an effort to keep the medications from getting into the hands of kids, and to property dispose of the medicine without harming the envirionment.
In addition to the 57,174 pills, deputies also collected liquids, creams, syringes, patches, inhalers and powder.
Deputies say, as in previous years of the program, the operation was a huge success.
