PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - Nearly two days after her 5-year-old daughter was found wandering a street alone, a Navy sailor has come forward to say she is the girl's mother.

The sailor, 26-year-old Alisha Jefferson, told Pensacola-area investigators late Wednesday she thought her daughter had been picked up by the girl's father. Jefferson has been charged with child neglect.

A driver spotted the girl wearing only pants and socks and walking along a highway. Investigators said a frantic Jefferson contacted them after her child's picture appeared in a Pensacola News Journal story seeking information the girl.
