FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News is uncovering new details tonight on a coach caught having sex with an underage player.
New court documents show Adrian Holland was trying to flee the country just before he was arrested. He plead guilty and is now spending ten years behind bars for the crime.
WINK also uncovered an e-mail message sent from Holland to his 14 year-old victim. It was sent just days after the investigation started. The victim's parents turned the email over to deputies. They say they never saw the signs their daughter's coach was taking advantage of her.
Twenty two year-old Holland was a trusted and respected coach with the Fort Myers Strikers youth soccer program. Parents were horrified to learn he sent inappropriate texts to one player, and later was caught having sex with another.
"Ive seen this becoming more frequent in my line of work," said Christina Reynolds, a child therapist.
She says it happens all the time and even the most attentive parents can be in the dark. New court records show Holland's 14 year-old victim only came clean after she learned Holland was sending racy texts to another player.
The victim's father told deputies during questioning, "I feel stupid... I wish I would have known."
"As parents, all you can do is ask questions, keep following up, and follow up with friends of the child," said Reynolds.
Reynolds says if you become suspicious, confront the coach or teacher. Make sure you go to your child's practices, and make your presence known. If your child becomes secretive, something is probably wrong.
Even after Holland was caught, he sent an email to the victim apologizing saying, "I'm so sorry. I love you more than you'll ever know."
