ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - An Orlando mother convicted of child neglect in the starving death of her 4-month-old daughter has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison.
Lauren Gress was sentenced on Wednesday.
Daughter Brianna was found dead in her bed in November 2008. Authorities said she died of malnutrition. Her twin, Edwin Jr., was also malnourished but survived.
Gress was charged with aggravated manslaughter, but a jury convicted her of child neglect in September.
Gress' attorney asked that she be given probation because of her mental health issues, while prosecutors called for a 25-year prison sentence.
