CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - A former Canaveral Port Authority commissioner is charged with two felonies.

Ralph Kennedy was charged Wednesday with unlawful compensation for official behavior, a second-degree felony, and conspiracy to receive unlawful compensation for official behavior, a third-degree felony.

The second-degree felony carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and the third-degree felony has a maximum prison sentence of five years.

State authorities allege that Kennedy positioned himself for a financial kickback from a contractor during the negotiation of bids for a hotel project at the port.

Kennedy refused to comment on the charges upon being released on $10,000 bond.
