FORT MYERS, Fla. - The jury listened to the gory details about the rape and murder of a man in a Bonita Springs shopping plaza.
Richard Elkins is accused of killing Obed Flores in February 2007. For the first time, Elkins' accomplice is talking about what he says happened that night.
"We went to call a cab out front and he said "I'm gonna kill him." said Christopher Maner.
Maner was with Richard Elkins and Obed Flores the night of the murder. He told a jury he watched his roommate beat Flores senseless and then kill him with a shovel. But first he saw his roommate rape the man.
"He threw him over the grease trap and then beat him some more," said Maner.
The Medical Examiner told the jury just how savagely Flores was beaten. She says more than one of the vicious blows were fatal.
Maner took a plea deal. He's spending 8 years in prison as an accessory to the crime. Now, the defense is trying to paint him as the killer and prove Elkins was manipulated and framed.
