LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Gubernatorial candidates Rick Scott and Alex Sink both plan visits to Southwest Florida in the final days leading up to next Tuesday's midterm elections.
Democrat Sink will visit Ft. Myers Wednesday morning to rally early voters to the polls. She'll be at the downtown Harborside Event Center starting at 9:30.
Rick Scott, running on the Republican ticket, will be in Ft. Myers on Sunday, October 31, and Monday, November first. A campaign spokesperson said specifics would be available in the next few days.
Across Florida, Republicans lead Democrats in early voting numbers. Absentee ballot requests have also set records in some counties. In Lee County, election officials said more than 54,000 mail-in ballots had been requested as of late last week.
A new Zogby/Naples Daily News poll released Monday showed Sink leading Scott, 43 percent to 39 percent.
The same poll found Republican Marco Rubio leading the three-way race for the senate. Rubio had an estimated 39 percent of votes, Crist had 33 percent, and Meek had 18 percent.
