TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Democratic candidate for Florida chief financial officer plans to bicycle more than 400 miles to confront her opponent because he's "not man enough to debate me."

Loranne Ausley, a 47-year-old former state representative, said Monday she'll pedal from her hometown of Tallahassee to Republican Jeff Atwater's North Palm Beach office in four days. Her trek starts Tuesday.

Atwater is president of the Florida Senate. His campaign spokesman, Brian Hughes, said it was Ausley who turned down an Oct. 21 debate invitation and failed to show up at a pair of candidate forums.

Ausley, a triathlete, said she's borrowing a page from the late Gov. "Walkin' Lawton" Chiles, known for hiking across Florida, to show she's "willing to go the extra mile."
