CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral police are reminding people to secure their homes... Particularly Snowbirds.

This past weekend, several seasonal residents reported their homes were broken into while they were away for the summer months.

One home had thousands of dollars in appliances stolen. Another had copper wiring ripped from the A/C unit.

Police say it's important to take precautions while you're away.

"They need to look at their house to examine why they were a target. There was a reason why criminals chose that house," said Officer Gerry Moll.

Police say have neighbors check on your house regularly and invest in lights with timers on them. If you can afford it, get security cameras.
