MIAMI (AP) - A Miami businessman has been given the go ahead to begin collecting signatures for a ballot initiative to oust Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez.

The county clerk of courts approved the recall petition form Wednesday.

Billionaire Norman Braman must collect signatures from at least four percent of registered voters, the equivalent of about 52,000 people, within 60 days.

If he succeeds, the issue would be placed before voters in a special election.

Braman is seeking Alvarez's removal in dispute of a new county budget that increases property tax rates.

Alvarez has noted that the budget was approved by the county commission. He is expected to publicly address the recall on Thursday.
