WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Palm Beach County judge has tossed out a subpoena for information from a law firm in an investigation of foreclosure practices by Attorney General Bill McCollum.
Circuit Judge Jack Cox ruled Monday that the subpoena of the Shapiro & Fishman law firm was overbroad and invasive. Cox also said the Florida Bar is best suited to handle questions about law firm legal tactics.
McCollum announced in August an investigation into three Florida law firms that represent lenders in foreclosure cases. The probe centers on whether false documents were filed to speed up the foreclosure process.
Three major lenders recently announced foreclosure moratoriums in Florida and 22 other states over similar practices.
