BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A man has been convicted of killing an elderly Hernando County couple during a 2006 robbery.
A Hernando County jury convicted 35-year-old Robert Jardin Tuesday of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of robbery, one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling and one count of grand theft.
Authorities say 84-year-old Patrick DePalma and 79-year-old Evelyn DePalma were found dead in their Masaryktown in October 2006. Investigators had no immediate leads, but some of their belongings were found in Jardin's possession in 2008. Jardin's DNA was later matched to a sample taken from their home.
The same jury that convicted Jardin of murder will reconvene Wednesday to recommend life in prison or the death penalty. A judge will make the final decision.
