PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - With time growing short, the Republican candidates for governor are traversing the Florida Panhandle looking for votes.

Locked in a tight primary race for the GOP nomination, Bill McCollum and Rick Scott hop-scotched each other from Pensacola to Panama City Saturday on the final weekend of the campaign. The election is Tuesday.

Scott, a wealthy Naples businessman and political newcomer, started the day at a landmark Pensacola diner and later put out a free pork barbecue spread for several hundred people at a downtown Panama City park.

McCollum, the state attorney general, talked about problems caused by the Gulf oil spill at a Pensacola bait and tackle shop and lunched with supporters at an Irish pub.
