SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Sarasota County deputies reportedly shot a suspect following a chase.
The sheriff's office reports that a deputy responding to a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Osprey spotted a truck with front-end damage and began to follow. The deputy attempted to pull the truck over, but the driver fled. When deputies finally caught up with the truck and forced it to stop, gunfire was exchanged, leaving 30-year-old Harry L. Bell wounded.
Authorities say Bell was a suspect in two armed robberies Wednesday night in Sarasota. A mask and a weapon were recovered from his truck.
No officers were reported injured in the shootout.
The extent of Bell's injuries wasn't clear, but he was taken by helicopter to a St. Petersburg hospital.
It's not clear if any charges will be filed.
