KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - The crew of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration survey vessel has rescued a pilot after his plane crashed into the ocean near Key West.
      
The Thomas Jefferson crew heard an urgent broadcast Saturday night that a Cessna had gone done. The ship, based out of Norfolk, Va., headed toward the crash site 30-miles away.

      
Coast Guard officials say the crew heard the pilot calling for help while swimming in the water and pulled him onboard. The pilot, who was the only person onboard the plane, has not been identified.

The Thomas Jefferson was in the area studying oil plumes in the Gulf of Mexico.
