DESTIN, Fla. (AP) - An Arkansas man vacationing on the Florida Panhandle has died after trying to save his son and another boy in the Gulf of Mexico.
Okaloosa County authorities say 43-year-old Stephen Presley couldn't be resuscitated after a lifeguard rescued him Thursday.
Presley jumped in after his 16-year-old son and a 17-year-old got caught in a rip current that pushed them into the Gulf. The boys escaped safely after one was tossed a raft and the other swam diagonally to shore.
Presley told the boys he couldn't move after he got lost in the current.
He had been vacationing in Destin with his son, daughter and two of their friends.
