PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A woman who allegedly embezzled over $1.5 million from work was in court today.
The judge in the Angela Dees trial said she needs more time to review the doctor evaluations.
Dees was accused of stealing $1.67 million from her law firm, Moore and Waksler. Punta Gorda police detectives said Dees deposited money from the law firm into her personal bank account through wire transfers and forged checks. The wire transfers ranged from $600 to $16,600. The forged checks were as large as $75,000.
Dees attorney said she is not mentally competent to stand trial. The prosecutors disagree.
She is charged with 129 counts of grand theft, 114 counts of wire fraud, and 16 counts of writing forged checks. The case is expected to go before the judge again in a couple weeks.
