PORT CHARLOTTE-On Monday, the Charlotte Stone Crabs played their longest game in franchise history, against the Daytona Cubs, taking a 3-3 tie in to the 15th inning. The Cubs pitching staff all-used up, they turned use else?! Their first base coach?
"I'm not a pitcher," said Matt Matulia, Daytona Cubs first base coach. "I'm actually just a coach this year but we ran into a tight spot, they need to activate me so I went out there and did the best I could"
And the best he could was throwing five scoreless inning, giving up just 4-hits, striking-out one and ultimately getting the win for the Cubs in the 19th inning!
"Its wild really," said Matulia. "I mean, you wouldn't imagine somebody who's not a pitcher being able to hold a team off for that long and it's something I'll be able to look back on and tell my grand kids about"
