San Carlos Park, FL- For the first time, the teenager who found human bones on a bike ride shows us what he saw. He took pictures with his cell phone.
He discovered the remains in a clearing a few hundred feet off of Winged Foot Drive, just west of Three Oaks Parkway.
Austin Munson was exploring this wooded area near his home Saturday afternoon when he came across what appeared to be bones.
Munson says, "It was a really weird spot in the woods, there was a big clearing, there was a hole in the ground with woods surrounding it, it was just really kind of creepy to be honest."
Though creepy, the teen was curious.
He says, "I looked at them, I touched them, I picked them up a little bit, I seen that they were not animal bones they were small, not a cow, they looked like like human hip bones, them I seen the skull too and I left I was like, I don't want to be here anymore."
Afraid he wouldn't be believed, Austin took a picture of the bones with his cell phone and called his brother. Then they called deputies.
Austin says, "I had to do something about it, I couldn't just you know, leave it there."
Since it was getting late, law enforcement blocked off the area and then waited until Sunday morning to examine the remains.
The medical examiners office has not yet determined the cause of death- or identity of the bones.
At this point, it's not known how long the bones had been sitting there, or whether they are male or female.
