LEE COUNTY, Fla.- An unknown driver was killed Friday night on State Road 82 after being ejected from an SUV.
At 10:50 pm a west bound 2004 Dodge SUV was traveling on SR-82 approaching Columbus Blvd South at a high rate of speed. The driver changed lanes to pass traffic and ran off the roadway onto the south shoulder.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports, the SUV traveled 171 feet on the shoulder and crossed over Columbus Blvd South. Then, according to reports, the SUV traveled 460 feet into a drainage ditch and collided with the embankment of a driveway access.
The SUV became airborne and the driver was ejected. Both the car and the driver landed in a water filled canal on the south shoulder.
The unidentified driver was not wearing a seat belt. It has not yet been determined if alcohol was a factor.
