NAPLES, Fla. - It's your money and city leaders are backing-off a plan to charge visitors on the pier. Many residents weren't happy about the idea.
"That's not going to happen," says Mayor Bill Barnett. "There's no support on the council. It was just an idea, probably not a good one, but an idea none the less."
The controversial plan was one idea to bridge a projected million-dollar budget gap. City staff also recommended trash removal just one day a week, instead of two days a week and charging at parking garages during special events. Councilman Gary Price says he likes none of the above.
"There's a whole bunch of ideas about its real easy to cut programs and services but I think the tougher thing is to cut overhead and expenses," says Price.
Council will talk about the budget during Monday's workshop.
