LEE COUNTY, Fla. - What should have been a normal walk into work becomes anything but.
The publix employee was attacked. her purse was stolen and a man dragged her on the ground leaving her bruised and scared.
It was very difficult for Ruby Cook to talk about what happened. She said she is petrified now, and going to work will never be the same.
"Something hit me. It said to take my purse and hold it close to my body."
Because Ruby didn't want to let go, she has bruises from the fight.
"He tugged and I tugged. He ended up knocking me down and then he started dragging me across the parking lot. I was screaming so loud that my throat actually got dry. I was just shaking all over, like a leaf."
It happened in San Carlos Park early Friday morning when Ruby was walking into Publix where she's employed as a baker. She said she's scared every time she has to go to work.
"When I am almost to work, I start shaking. I get such cold chills. I'm thinking to myself, I've got to drive in that parking lot again, and get out, and get into the store. I am totally petrified... anyone walks up behind me, I jump. I don't know if someone's being friendly or if someone's trying to get at me."
Now, Ruby is trying to make up for what she lost and get justice.
"This damn guy is taking something away from me that I deserve. I earned it. I worked for it. I worked damn hard for it."
Deputies searched the area with K9's but were not able to find suspect.
