An overnight fire destroyed a Port Charlotte home.  A Sheriff's deputy spotted the smoke and flames in the 17,000 block of Cox Avenue while on patrol nearby and called it in.  Firefighters knocked the flames down but not before the home was destoryed.  Nobody was home at the time.  The Fire Marshall is expected at the scene to investigate why the fire started.
