FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  - The suspect who allegedly beat a Florida girl to the brink of death will be tried as an adult.

Authorities claim that 15-year-old Wayne Treacy beat 15-year-old Josie Lou Ratley after the two argued via text message.

Treacy punched and stomped on Ratley with steel-toed boots, leaving her comatose. Treacy's attorney has said the teen plans to plead not guilty.

Authorities say Wayne Ratley's attorney Rick Freedman says he thinks charging Treacy as an adult was the right decision. A 13-year-old girl accused of identifying Ratley to Treacy, knowing that he intended to harm her, has been charged as a juvenile with principal to attempted murder. She has pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, Ratley's mother announced Monday, April 19, that her daughter will undergo a third brain surgery. Josie Lou Ratley's mother reported  that the 15-year-old girl is recovering, but she's confused about why she's in the hospital.
