MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Florida man will spend a year in prison for his role in a plot to smuggle more than 100 turtles out of West Virginia for sale elsewhere.
Lehigh Acres native Eric B. Diana was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Martinsburg.
Diana had pleaded guilty in July 2009 to violating the Lacey Act, which prohibits trade in wildlife that have been illegally obtained. According to court documents, Diana and two other people conspired to capture turtles in West Virginia and take the animals to Virginia in late May or June 2008.
