CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The third time is a charm. Wednesday, Cape Coral Planning and Zoning commissioners approved the building of a condominium complex... after it's been turned down twice.
It would be built near the Charlotte County line off Burnt Store Road, but people already living there, don't like the idea.
By a vote of 4 to 3, a project called Sans Souci Bay wins. The 14 story, 600 unit condo complex would be built in the NW Cape.
It is something James Franklin does not want to see. He loves the peace and quiet in his neighborhood.
"It's a may-berry. You go out of your yard and see stars at night time. I look out my front door and see a high rise ruining the skyline. It's a beautiful area."
Christopher Spiro was able to talk commissioners into approving the 384-million dollar plan.
"It has a public playground, tennis courts, nice native plantings all around it ... it takes advantage of the views of the preserve. It's a win/win."
Still, commissioners have their reservations. The area is subject to flooding, and there are not businesses in the area.
On the other hand, it would bring jobs and call for roads to be updated, but it is still not enough to convince Franklin.
"People are already starting to buy up the houses back there because of the way the area is. Once they put this up, people will stop buying."
Cape Coral City Council will make the final decision on this project.
