FORT MYERS, Fla. - Today, April 1, 2010, marked the deadline for getting those 2010 census forms in the mail. The census information is vital, as it's used to determine federal funding, election zones, among other things.
Citizens are warned to look out for census-related scams, as fake census forms have been circulating. Scammers try to solicit personal information like social security number and signature. The public is reminded that the Census Bureau will never solicit tsocial security numbers, signatures or bank account information. The ten questions seek information on ethnicity, gender and the name of each resident in the household.
Those who fail to return their census form in time can expect a visit from a census worker; census workers will be going door-to-door in the coming weeks.
