FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Police Department has a new way to catch speeders in local school zones. The highly engineered smart device will help police monitor traffic patterns and keep children safe.

The department competed in a national competition sponsored by All Traffic Solutions and was one of two locations chosen to receive the device.

While the device itself appears small the anticipated benefits of the technology are big. The radar speed display will deliver critical data to police on the times of day when speeding occurs the most and the volume of traffic that disregards the posted speed limit. With this information, officers can efficiently deploy resources at the right time thereby making the school zone safer.
