FORT MYERS, Fla.- A resident chased and subdued a 14-year-old suspect he allegedly caught rummaging through his vehicle at The Park at Veneto apartments early this morning.

Fort Myers Police arrived at the apartments on Central Avenue around 5:00 a.m. where they learned the owner of a 1994 Ford pickup truck went outside to smoke a cigarette when he observed two males rummaging through the inside of his vehicle. The victim approached the males and they fled on foot. After a short foot chase, the victim was able to apprehend the 14-year-old and detain him until police arrival.

The victim gave out a description of the second perpetrator and police began to canvass the area. They spotted a male matching the description running behind the Edison Park 8 Cinemas, and took him into custody without incident. The second perpetrator was identified as a 14-year-old as well.

Both teens confessed to the crime and were charged with vehicle burglary and petit theft. They were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for further processing.
