PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Two women from Harbour Heights were arrested Wednesday on multiple charges related to a scheme to steal merchandise from local businesses and resell the property.
On Tuesday, undercover deputies met with Teara Anne Sander, 24, to purchase property suspected to have been stolen. Sander allegedly sold the undercover operative a Vizio surround sound system and an RCA mobile DVD player, both of which were still in the original retail packaging, for $150. The total retail value of the items was $345.
Sander contacted the undercover operative again on Wednesday to tell him she had more merchandise available.
On Wednesday, district detectives received a call from loss prevention personnel at the Walmart Super Center in Punta Gorda. They told the detectives while they were reviewing security video they had noticed Shannon Kelly Confessore, 29, going through the store selecting various items from the electronics section. Among the items she put in her cart was a Vizio surround sound system. The loss prevention personnel said Confessore left the store without paying for the merchandise that totaled more than $1,200 in value.
In a separate case, loss prevention personnel from the Walmart Super Center, located on Kings Highway in Port Charlotte, reported on July 30 that Confessore was seen on their security video taking items from the electronics and from the housewares sections of their store. She again is alleged to have passed all points of sale without paying for the merchandise. When she was approached by loss prevention personnel, she left the cart and fled the area in a small gray car.
Confessore was taken into custody when she was stopped in the area of Harborview Road and I-75 on Wednesday. Sander was also taken into custody. As a result of the ensuing investigation, detectives obtained search warrants for the residence of Confessore and Sander, as well as a storage unit they rented. Detectives recovered several computers, home surround sound systems, GPS units and other electronics and appliances. Their investigation is still ongoing and other charges are expected.
Confessore was charged with Grand Theft, Petit Theft and Organizing Theft and Dealing in Stolen Property. She is being held on a total $19,000 bond.
Sander was charged with two counts of Dealing in Stolen Property, Violation of Probation, Possession of Hydrocodone and Possession of Paraphernalia. She is being held without bond.
