PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office has arrested 66 people in the last two weeks as part of Operation Summer Heat.

The operation aimed to get drugs off the streets. Deputies have had their eyes on dozens of criminals for months and are finally making their moves. The alleged offenders are now behind bars on 335 drug charges.

"We are seeing the heroin, cocaine, meth, the crack. That stuff's coming back," said Sheriff Prummell.

The suspects even include several juveniles.

The sheriff says while there's not one set area they are cracking down on, the one similarity is that at least 64 of those arrested are repeat offenders. One man even served time for murder.

"They are doing armed robberies, breaking into your houses, cars, they are stealing and if you happen to come upon them, there's no telling what they might do to you," the sheriff said.

He said the operation is not over yet. Deputies have arrested the little guys to get to the big guns, eventually. The Sheriff's Office is still looking for about 20 more offenders.
