CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police arrested a woman accused of trying to hit a man with her car last night because he owed her money.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at a barber shop located at 4515 Del Prado Boulevard S.

The victim said he got into an argument with Marlen Barrios, over $3,000 that she and her husband paid to bail him out of jail. During the argument, the victim said he told Barrios that he would not repay the money to her or her husband. Barrios reportedly told him that he had two days to repay the money, "or else."

Things escalated quickly when, according to the victim and corroborating witnesses, Barrios placed her car in reverse and attempted to strike the victim with her vehicle as he walked away from her. The victim had to run to get out of the way of the vehicle. Barrios then left the business driving north on Del Prado Boulevard.

Officers made contact with Barrios on a traffic stop a couple of blocks from her home. They say Barrios denied making a threat, but did say that she gave Mercado a two-day repayment window. Barrios also allegedly said she did not see the victim when she was backing up (even though she was never in a parking space and had no reason to back up in order to exit the parking lot).

Barrios was arrested for Attempted Aggravated Battery and was transported to Lee County Jail.
