CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police arrested a vehicle burglary suspect who jumped into a canal in attempt to flee from them.

Yesterday evening, police were called to 928 Cape Coral Parkway East on a suspicious person call. The caller advised that a man wearing a white t-shirt, shorts, and sandals was looking into and attempting to enter vehicles in the parking lot. Officers made contact with the subject on arrival, and identified him as 23-year-old Brandon Meredith.

While speaking with officers, Meredith reportedly reached into his pocket and pulled out a clear baggie of marijuana. Police said Meredith then jumped into a canal in the 4900 block of Viceroy Street. While in the water, Meredith’s baggie of suspected marijuana floated to the surface and was taken by the officer in pursuit.

After that, Meredicth led police on a foot pursuit. Police had to use a Taser in order to take Meredith into custody.

Witnesses shwoed police two vehicles that Meredith attempted to enter.

Meredith faces charges of Burglary of a Vehicle, Possession of Cannabis, and Resisting and Officer.
