CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a convicted felon after finding multiple guns and packages of ammunition inside the vehicle he was riding in.
Frederick Cunningham faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of probation.
According to Cunningham's arrest report, deputies stopped a pick-up truck driven by Michael Powell, because the trailer brake lights were not working. Powell was given a warning, but when deputies searched vehicle, they found an AR-15 rifle with a scope resting between the driver's seat and center console; a 45-70 with a scope resting between the passenger's seat and the center console; another AR-15 rifle with a scope laying across the floorboard in front of the backseats; and two handguns in a backpack on the rear seat. Deputies also said they found numerous boxes of ammunition located throughout the vehicle.
The guns reportedly belonged to Powell, who said he had hired Cunningham as a fishing guide for the day. Deputies then discovered Cunningham was on probation for aggravated assault with a weapon.
Upon speaking to Cunningham about the weapons, he was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
